To erase a Windows Surface Pro device:

  1. Plug in a USB keyboard to the device.
  2. Power on the device and let it boot to the Windows login screen.
  3. Press the power icon on the bottom right corner of the screen. Hold down left shift key and select restart.
  4. The device should reboot into a blue "Choose an Option" screen
  5. Select "Troubleshoot" -> "Advanced Options" -> "UEFI Firmware Settings" -> "Restart".
  6. UEFI firmware setup screen should show up. Make sure that "Secure boot control" is disabled and save the settings.
  7. Shut down your Surface.
  8. Insert the bootable USB drive into the USB port on your Surface.
  9. Press and hold the volume-down button on Surface.
  10. While holding down the volume-down button, press and release the power button.
  11. The Microsoft or Surface logo appears on your screen. Continue to hold the volume-down button. Release the button once spinning dots appear beneath the logo.
  12. Follow the on-screen instructions to boot from your USB drive.
