Management Portal
Blancco Cloud
N/A

This page will guide Blancco Channel Partners through the different steps included in the Blancco Management Portal Upgrade Wizard when upgrading from an existing Blancco Cloud environment to the new Blancco Management Portal.

If your company is entitled for the upgrade, users with "manager" role should have been notified through separate email communication and they should be able to access the wizard and start the upgrade process following the instructions provided in the email. If you are unsure whether you are entitled for the upgrade, contact your Blancco Sales Representative or Blancco Technical Support.

If you are a direct customer please see the documentation covering the Upgrade Wizard here: Blancco Management Portal Upgrade Wizard

Upgrade Wizard steps

After the upgrade process is started following the instructions provided in the separate email communication manager users will see an "Upgrade available" banner after logging in to the Blancco Cloud.

Note that you can close the upgrade wizard at any point by selecting "Save and continue later". When you choose to proceed with the upgrade you will continue from the step you closed the wizard previously.

  1. Initially you will see Blancco Management Portal Upgrade Wizard Channel Partner/Distributor check. Selecting "Yes" the upgrade Wizard continues to the welcome page.
  2. "Welcome to Blancco Management Portal (BMP) Upgrade Wizard" page will list the different steps you need to complete as part of the upgrade. In order to continue "I understand" checkbox needs to be selected.
  3. "Set up Blancco Management Portal Account". During this step Blancco Management Portal account is created for you. Note that this doesn't affect you end customers you are managing, as a channel partner you can manage migration of your end customers at a later stage.
  4. After successfully creating the account you are required to validate your access to the Management Portal account and login. In order to verify your account follow instructions on the separate invite email you receive from Management Portal. Once you have managed to complete the sign up and login to Management Portal select "My account has been created and I can log in" and then click "Next". The page also provides you with the new erasure client communication settings you will need to use in order to consume licenses/send reports to Management Portal.
  5. If you have been using Blancco Cloud API, review the updated Blancco Management Portal API endpoints and plan the required changes.
    1. Detailed API guide is available on Blancco Management Portal under the "Support" tab.
    2. Additional Knowledge base content available in Management Portal - API page.

API endpoints in Management Portal are not backwards compatible!

In order to keep using the API, changes are required to meet the requirements for the new API endpoints!

  6. "Manage customers". You can now manage and control migration process for your end customers. List of end customers you manage is displayed and validation to check if these customer are eligible for the upgrade is started automatically. Once the automatic validation is completed the "Status description" column is updated automatically.

  7. After successful validation you can start to send invites to the customers by selecting the checkbox on the first column and then selecting "Send invitation". Note that this triggers a user invitation email to be sent automatically to the end customer's users. Once the invitation to an end customer is sent the status of the customer is updated from "Not started" to "In progress" and the "Status description" is updated accordingly from "Stage one pending" → "Stage one in progress" → "Stage one completed".
  8. After completing "Stage 1" the end customer can access Blancco Management Portal and test the available features before moving over the rest of their existing data. As a channel partner you can also see and manage the end customer tenant from the "Tenants" view in Blancco Management Portal.
  9. Once the end customer is ready to be fully migrated to Blancco Management Portal (and Stage 1 was already completed) the upgrade can be continued by selecting the checkbox in the first column for appropriate customers and then clicking "Transfer customer(s)". Note that this will transfer all licenses and last 12 months worth of reports for the selected customer to the Blancco Management Portal and erasure clients need to be configured to connect to Management Portal for licensing.

After you "Transfer customer" their data will be copied over and the existing Blancco Cloud account will go into a read only mode and customer cannot consume licenses from Blancco Cloud anymore.

Any further erasures will need to be carried out using Management Portal instead. This requires Blancco software to be configured with the new endpoint and user credentials.

Also any possible API integration needs to updated to meet the requirements of the new Blancco Management Portal APIs.

Upon completion the "Status" of the end customer should update to "Completed" and the "Status description" is updated accordingly from "Stage two pending" → "Stage two in progress" → "Migration completed".
  10. When you have at least started the upgrade process for all the required customers you can proceed migrating the rest of your own data by selecting "Initiate my data transfer". Note that once you proceed with migration of your own data you cannot migrate any new customers so make sure you have started the process for all required customers.
  11. "Transfer data" allows you to define the data copied over as part of the process, by default all licenses are included and user cannot edit these options. If you want copy over existing reports you can select either none or last 6/12 months worth of reports.

NOTE! API endpoints between Blancco Cloud and Management Portal are different and not backwards compatible!

If you are integrated with any Blancco Cloud API endpoint you will need to make sure any integration is updated to utilize Blancco Management Portal API endpoints when the "Transfer data" step is run!

After you confirm and click "Transfer data" your data will be copied over and your existing Blancco Cloud account will go into a read only mode and you cannot consume licenses from Blancco Cloud anymore.

Any further erasures will need to be carried out using Management Portal instead.

  12. When the migration of your data is completed you can see the "Summary" of migrated customers and their statuses.
