  • Microsoft Surface Pro 1 is supported (since Blancco Drive Eraser / Blancco 5.4.0). Blancco Drive Eraser / Blancco 5 can boot, unlock and erase this tablet with the "Blancco SSD Erasure" standard.
  • Microsoft Surface Pro 2 is also supported. Blancco Drive Eraser / Blancco 5 can boot, unlock and erase this tablet with the "Blancco SSD Erasure" standard.
  • Microsoft Surface Pro 3 is not fully supported. Blancco Drive Eraser / Blancco 5 can boot on this tablet, unfortunately this tablet puts a freeze lock on the SSD, such lock cannot be removed and prevents any firmware-based erasure command from being executed (they always fail). Therefore the tablet cannot be erased with the "Blancco SSD Erasure" standard.

    • We have investigated this issue extensively to no avail. The problem lies on the tablet itself and cannot be worked around.

    • Nevertheless, any standard that simply overwrites the SSD (e.g. “Aperiodic Random Overwrite”, HMG & DoD standards) will work on this device.

    • Erasing this tablet with e.g. “Aperiodic Random Overwrite” standard (or HMG or DoD) and setting a 100% verification will exceed the NIST recommendations to achieve a "clear-level" security (preventing keyboard-level attacks i.e. attempts to retrieve information using a data recovery software).

Regarding x86 tablets, note the following:

  • Many x86 tablets contain eMMC drives and for those drives only "clear-level" erasure is supported.
