Blancco Drive Eraser can detect, remove and erase hidden areas from drives kann versteckte Bereiche von Laufwerken (HPA, DCO) . The handling of such areas is sometimes difficult and may produce some exception messages in the reporterkennen, entfernen und löschen. Der Umgang mit solchen Bereichen ist manchmal schwierig und kann im Bericht zu einigen Ausnahmen führen:

HPA / DCO

area removed

This message informs that the hidden area(s) was (were) detected and removed.

By “removed”, one must understand that the area was retired/suppressed, therefore it is not on the drive anymore.

HPA/DCO area content was erased

This message informs that the hidden area(s) content was erased.

By “erased”, one must understand that the area content was overwritten/wiped and does not contain data anymore.

3aFirmware command failed or cannot be executed

These messages describe the cause of a problem:

-          The software has executed a command to remove the hidden area(s), the command has failed.

-          The software cannot reach the hidden area(s) of the drive.

This may be due to the following:

-          The hidden areas exist but they are somehow locked and cannot be accessed.

The hidden areas simply don’t exist, however because we are not certain of this we assume they exist.

HPA/DCO area is unreachable

HPA/DCO area could not be removed

This message describes a direct consequence of the problem #3: the software cannot remove the hidden area(s) of the drive (because it is unreachable).

By “could not be removed”, one must understand that the area cannot be retired or suppressed, therefore it may still exist on the drive.

HPA area content could not be erased

This message describes another potential problem: the software cannot erase the contents of the hidden area(s) of the drive. This happens if the drive does not implement any command that can erase it as a whole, or if such command has not been used during the erasure.

By “could not be erased”, one must understand that the area content was not overwritten or wiped, therefore it may still contain data.

Some combinations:

Bereich entfernt

Diese Nachricht informiert darüber, dass die ausgeblendeten Bereiche erkannt und entfernt wurden.

Bei "Entfernt" muss man verstehen, dass der Bereich zurückgezogen / unterdrückt wurde, daher ist er nicht mehr auf der Festplatte.

Inhalt des HPA / DCO-Bereichs wurde gelöscht

Diese Nachricht informiert darüber, dass der Inhalt der versteckten Bereiche gelöscht wurde.

Bei "gelöscht" muss man verstehen, dass der Inhalt des Bereichs überschrieben / gelöscht wurde und keine Daten mehr enthält.

3a

Firmware-Befehl ist fehlgeschlagen oder kann nicht ausgeführt werden

Diese Nachrichten beschreiben die Ursache eines Problems:

- Die Software hat einen Befehl zum Entfernen der versteckten Bereiche ausgeführt, der Befehl ist fehlgeschlagen.

- Die Software kann die versteckten Bereiche des Laufwerks nicht erreichen.

3b

HPA / DCO-Bereich ist nicht erreichbar

Dies kann auf Folgendes zurückzuführen sein:

- Die versteckten Bereiche existieren, aber sie sind irgendwie gesperrt und können nicht zugegriffen werden.
Die verborgenen Bereiche existieren einfach nicht, aber da wir uns nicht sicher sind, gehen wir davon aus, dass sie existieren.

HPA / DCO-Bereich konnte nicht entfernt werden

Diese Nachricht beschreibt eine direkte Konsequenz des Problems # 3: Die Software kann die versteckten Bereiche des Laufwerks nicht entfernen (weil es nicht erreichbar ist).

Mit "konnte nicht entfernt werden" muss man verstehen, dass der Bereich nicht zurückgezogen oder unterdrückt werden kann, daher kann er auf dem Laufwerk noch existieren.

Inhalt des HPA-Bereichs konnte nicht gelöscht werden

Diese Nachricht beschreibt ein weiteres potenzielles Problem: Die Software kann den Inhalt der verborgenen Bereiche des Laufwerks nicht löschen. Dies geschieht, wenn das Laufwerk keinen Befehl implementiert, der es als Ganzes löschen kann, oder wenn ein solcher Befehl während des Löschens nicht verwendet wurde.

Mit "konnte nicht gelöscht werden" muss man verstehen, dass der Bereichsinhalt nicht überschrieben oder gelöscht wurde, daher kann er immer noch Daten enthalten.

 

 

Einige Kombinationen:

 

  • Im Normalfall werden die Nachrichten 1 + 2 angezeigt.
  • Trotzdem können Berichte die Nachrichten 3a / 3b + 4 + 5 auf einigen Laufwerken anzeigen, diese Kombination tritt auf, wenn während des Löschvorgangs kein Befehl verwendet wurde, der das Laufwerk als Ganzes löschen kann (der verborgene Bereich wurde nicht entfernt und sein Inhalt nicht gelöscht, d.h. der Bereich kann noch Daten enthalten).
  • Andere Berichte können stattdessen die Nachrichten 3a / 3b + 4 + 2 anzeigen, diese Kombination tritt auf, wenn das Laufwerk einen Befehl implementiert hat, der es als Ganzes löschen kann und wenn dieser Befehl während des Löschvorgangs ausgeführt wurde (der versteckte Bereich wurde nicht entfernt, aber sein Inhalt wurde gelöscht, d.h. der Bereich enthält keine Daten
  • In a normal case scenario, the messages 1 + 2 will be shown.
  • Nevertheless, reports may show the messages 3a/3b + 4 + 5 on some drives, this combination occurs if no command that can erase the drive as a whole has been used during the erasure process (the hidden area was not removed and its content was not erased i.e. the area may still contain data).
  • Other reports may show the messages 3a/3b + 4 + 2 instead, this combination occurs if the drive implements a command that can erase it as a whole and if such command has been executed during the erasure process (the hidden area was not removed but its content was erased i.e. the area does not contain any data).
